Spanish landscape artist Blai Tomas Ibanez captures the unique light and character of ‘La Serenissima’ in his beautiful and evocative scenes. His lyrical style, luminous palette and poetic perspective bring the world’s most romantic city to life in intimate detail.

Spending long periods of time in Venice, Ibanez has come to know, love and perhaps most importantly, understand this city of waterways with its crumbling palazzi, ancient bridges and iconic gondolas.

Painting outside on location, he works directly with acrylics on canvas and chooses his subject based as much on the light as on the elements of the scene. This leads him to a spontaneous way of working which gives each piece a sense of natural movement and a gentle energy, especially when combined with his beautifully controlled understanding of light and shade, textures and reflections.
